If you want to create something which is essentially a pattern, but the size of the feature changes, you can still use a Pattern in SolidWorks. There is a little known option in a pattern called Vary Sketch which will allow patterns of circular grates or fencing to be done in a fraction of the time. See the video for more details.





Physical Dynamics is a very powerful way to test mechanisms which cannot be described or set up using mates alone. It respects inertia, centres of mass and accurately checks how parts interact with one another. Great for checking if you can get a spanner onto a nut or checking how something fits. The video is worth watching for the SolidWorks model of the board game mouse trap!
