The SOLIDSOLUTIONS team had recently been tasked with the job of converting the animation files from the big screen to useable 3d data that can be used for 3d printing, creating tooling and various other things. This is where SOLIDWORKS and Scan to 3d comes in, to convert the Point could data into a mesh file which can then be turned into SOLIDWORKS part file ready for modelling.
This process is made easy with the step by step guide which help
you though the process, even with more complex set of scanned data such as OLAF
Scan to 3d will take a range of file in this case an STL
& XYZ files. Once brought in the Software can then break this model up into
sub meshes which can in turn be worked on and converted to surfaces. (The
different colours represent the different sub meshes and also seen in the
Once we have this sub meshes and placed those into separate
parts we can then spot any issues with some help from the scan to 3d software.
Once we have found these issues we can then change the way
the surface wizard creates the feature lines to remove any twisted or broken
surfaces. We can doing that by adding more feature lines, deleting existing
feature lines, moving the existing feature lines, or relaxing/ simplifying
features lines. Or in this case using a combination of these tools to produce
the finished result.
