You can't turn on the tv or browse a social media platform without being reminded of the impact we, as humans are having on the environment. From the climate crisis to littered seas and beaches, it's clear that we need to find new solutions to break our traditional create, use, and waste cycle.

Ahead of World Environment Day this Sunday (5th of June), we wanted to showcase a few of our customers who have been inventing unique solutions to help combat this cycle, reduce our impact on the environment and create a healthier planet for the future generations.

 

BIOHM - Bio-Based Building Materials

 Biohm is an award-winning research and development company that is using nature to revolutionise construction materials and create a healthier, more sustainable environment. Placing biological systems at the heart of their inspiration, Biohm uses future-tech to create a change in building technologies, materials and manufacturing methods. Their products include Mycelium, insulation made from mushrooms, and various other innovative materials.

ENTOCYCLE - Protein that doesn't cost the Earth

Entocycle is an insect farming company with a vision to "restore the natural world by revolutionising the way we feed animals." The way we currently raise animals and produce their protein-rich feed puts significant strain on natural resources and contributes to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions. Entocycle is looking to eradicate these issues through insect farming to produce an alternative solution to fulfil this protein-rich food requirement.

LETTUS GROW – Vertical Farming

LettUs Grow uses aeroponic technology to grow crops, this refers to growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil or an aggregate medium. This farming technique involves suspending plant roots in a dense mist solution of nutrients and water, at LettUs Grow they create and manufacture bespoke aeroponic grow beds that minimise the required land footprint. They currently house over 40 variations of salad, soft fruit and root crops, this means their plants grow close to the consumer all year round.

NOTPLA - Making Packaging Disappear

Every year the UK generates more than two million metric tons of plastic packaging waste, this equates to roughly 36 kilograms of plastic packaging waste per person. NOTPLA are leading the way forward for biodegradable packaging with a mission to reduce plastic waste, along with the use of single-use plastics. They offer a range of bio-degradable packaging solutions made from seaweed, which naturally degrades in a matter of weeks.
