Leach are a Huddersfield based large format printer involved in the manufacture of retail, museum and exhibition graphic displays. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer with a minimum of 5 years experience.
Reporting to Head of innovation, the role will involve the design and development of both illuminated and non-illuminated displays in a variety of materials across retail, museum and exhibition sectors as well as designing displays for external graphics for heritage and historical sites. The job will also involve offering technical support to the sales and installation teams and occasionally attending client meetings.
Bespoke displays can often be free standing or ceiling hung as well as wall mounted and may include other elements such as shelves, digital screens, bracketry, structural and aesthetic panels etc.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering based design with a good working knowledge of Solidworks. They will need to be located within a commutable distance to Huddersfield and would demonstrate an ability to respond to design briefs and ensure timescales can be met as well as designing for production in a cost-effective way.
An ability to prioritise and manage workload is desirable, particularly where projects may involve several different designs, for example a museum gallery comprising several displays and arrangements or a retail project requiring many variants for a roll-out of production across many stores.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop bespoke display designs using and adapting our in-house extrusion profiles and components to fit customer requirements.
- Work independently on projects keeping to timescales and briefs to ensure deadlines are achieved and solutions are fit for purpose.
- Build and test prototypes where required. Evaluating and improving the designs where necessary.
Experience/Skills:
- Good understanding of the design and manufacturing processes including sheet metal.
- Mechanical and structural understanding with good analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Ability to produce high quality technical drawings and assemblies.
- Good materials knowledge.
- Solidworks – 2d and 3d with component and assembly/weldment design using configurations/design tables etc.
- Strong communication skills. Able to present ideas and receive feedback.
- Experience in lighting, electronics or retail display design an advantage but not essential.
