QHi Rail is a company based in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Operating globally we specialise in the design, manufacture and sales of friction control products to the rail industry. We are owned by Whitmore, a progressive company based in Texas manufacturing high specification lubricants for many markets. QHi Rail provides design and technical support for a continually growing product range with manufacture in our UK and USA facilities.

We are looking to recruit an experienced full time mechanical engineer to replace one of our engineers who will retire this year. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager the role would be wide ranging and cover areas of engineering and design, including:
• Product design from concept through to production. Typically this will mainly cover mechanical design but will also include some exposure to hydraulic and electrical tasks
• Detail design utilising cad packages
• Product R&D.
• Product support for off-site teams and customers
• Detailed involvement with ISO9001, ISO14001, Rail Management Procedures
• Health & Safety procedures and management.

Previous experience in a relevant mechanical design role
• Experience of full product life cycle from concept design through to test, development and production
• Able to hit the ground running and contribute immediately to workflow within a small Mechanical Design team.
• Experience with design of sheet metal, welded structures e.g. cabinets, turned and milled components
• Experience working within the Rail Industry advantageous but not essential
