GD&T Training

Learn Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

What is GD&T?

Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a language used in mechanical engineering drawings. It consists of symbols that communicate geometry requirements efficiently and accurately for associated features on components and assemblies.

Most engineers understand the geometric symbols, but often, proper definitions are misinterpreted or inconsistently applied. Fully adopting and understanding the philosophy will enable engineers to calculate, apply, and analyse tolerances to guarantee that parts fit together and are totally interchangeable at the design stage before physical parts are created.

Browse our GD&T course options below and contact us if you have questions or would like to arrange a course.

Our Training Courses

GD&T Foundation Training Part 1
Duration - Onsite: 2 days, Online 3 days

It is essential that the philosophy is clearly understood before individual engineers can correctly apply GD&T to the national standards.

Foundation Part 1 will look to:
  • Ensure clarity of purpose in the group
  • Expose Engineers to the philosophy of GD&T
  • To introduce and demonstrate the use of GD&T standards
  • To convey an understanding of the meaning of the Geometric symbols
  • To illustrate the application of GD&T to specific parts
  • Enable you to calculate and display functional tolerances

GD&T Foundation Training Part 2
Duration - Onsite: 2 days, Online 3 days

This session will introduce new concepts not covered in Part 1 and expand on previously covered topics. In this session, the delegates will have more practical GD&T exercises to complete.

These will include making detailed drawings on paper and 2D and possibly 3D detailing within your chosen CAD system, as most of the media within your company will be displayed this way. All of the drawings completed must be in accordance with the ISO or ASME Standards.

GD&T Application Session
Duration - Onsite: 2 days, Online 2 days

The initial training course will spend time looking at illustrative examples of situations the Engineers face when applying GD&T.

However, our recommendation would be to apply training further through project-specific coaching around commonly faced problems. This approach maximises the impact of the training and subsequent knowledge retention and is a useful element of the evaluation process.

Exercises in this session will give the delegates exposure to advanced GD&T not covered in the foundation session, whether for design, manufacture, or Inspection activities.
