SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation

Training Agenda

Lesson Agenda
Lesson 1 – Creating a SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation Project - The first lesson of this course teaches the user how to prepare and create a Flow Simulation Project using the Project Wizard. The user will apply boundary conditions and goals before running an analysis and viewing their results.

Lesson 2 – Meshing - Lesson 2 introduces the user to meshes, using mesh features and applying manual mesh controls.

Lesson 3 – Thermal Analysis - In lesson 3 the user will learn how to use the engineering database to define materials, apply heat loading to a model and create fans and perforated plates for cooling. The user will also be taught good modelling approaches to complicated geometry.

Lesson 4 – External Transient Analysis - Upon successful completion of lesson 4 the user will be able to use the Reynolds number equation to apply a velocity boundary condition to an external analysis. The user will also learn how to create a 2D plane flow analysis and will be introduced to animation techniques that will allow for visualisation of their results.

Lesson 5 – Conjugate Heat Transfer - In lesson 5 the user will learn how to create a steady state conjugate heat transfer analysis for a cold plate using a real gas. Upon completion the user will understand how to define multiple fluid regions and create temperature plots in the solid and fluid regions.

Lesson 6 – EFD Zooming - Lesson 6 introduces EFD Zooming to solve complex models. The user will learn how to properly apply transferred boundary conditions.

Lesson 7 – Porous media - Lesson 7 focusses on creating a flow analysis using the porous media option. The user will be taught how to use the component control command and how to evaluate velocity profiles.

Lesson 8 – Rotating reference frames - Upon successful completion of lesson 8, the user will be able to set up rotating regions within the computation domain using two methods, ‘Averaging’ or the ‘Sliding Mesh’.

Lesson 9 – Parametric study -In lesson 9 the user will learn how to create an analysis using the parametric (optimization) study feature. In addition to this, the user will be taught how to create a quarter model using symmetry planes as well as understanding how to properly post-process parametric results.

Lesson 10 – Free Surface - Lesson 10 will explain how the free surface option can be used within SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation and what types of studies it can solve.

Lesson 11 – Cavitation - Lesson 11 focusses on cavitation, showing the user how to select the cavitation flow type and how to display the results.

Lesson 12 – Relative Humidity - Lesson 12 teaches the user how to apply relative humidity as a boundary condition and how to display relative humidity results.

Lesson 13 – Particle Trajectory - In Lesson 13 the user will learn how to inject a physical particle into a flow stream, use the particle study command and finally, view the particle trajectory results.

Lesson 14 – Supersonic Flow - Upon successful completion of lesson 14 the user will be able to, create an external supersonic flow analysis, use an adaptive mesh, and create contour plots of Mach number.

Lesson 15 – FEA Load Transfer - In the final lesson of this course, the user will learn how to transfer flow results to SOLIDWORKS Simulation for stress analysis. Additionally, the user will learn how to create a SOLIDWORKS Simulation study, using results from SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation as input boundary conditions and, finally, view results in SOLIDWORKS Simulation.
Course Details
Length: 3 Days

Prerequisites: SOLIDWORKS Essentials training course

Description:

SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation is used to analyse the flow and thermal affects within your designs. Determine the flow of liquids and gases internal and external of your assemblies to ensure maximum efficiency and understand whether thermal implications may cause a problem. Learn about the range of powerful animation outputs from the software that help visualise how design changes may improve your design.
