Course Overview
This course introduces the P&ID tool and how to generate new projects. You will create Diagrams for general systems as well as more specialised items such as SubDrawings and Unit Drawings. You also learn how to create your own symbols with the correct data fields. Part and Component Lists are also dealt with as well as the exporting to other file types including PDF.
What You'll Learn
Course Agenda
Lesson 1: Program Overview
We will introduce the User Interface, explain the various toolbars and tabs. We will then learn how the data is structured.
Lesson 2: What is a Project?
The core of the design is the project. It contains all of the information and will have multiple sheets and sections. A new project will be created complete with a cover page, table of contents, dividers and diagram pages
Lesson 3: Diagrams
Diagrams form the core of a P&ID project. A new drawing will be created. New components, as well as symbols added. Use of the pick menu will be explained. Lines will be used to connect the items and tagging of all parts will be covered.
Lesson 4: Edit Diagrams
We will look at how we can move and copy items. Rename symbols, and how we can connect different areas of the P&ID together. Then we will validate our design with some design checks.
Lesson 5: Subdrawings and Unit Drawings
Subdrawings allow you to reuse sections of a design, we will create one to see how this works, and helps in building larger systems. Unit drawings allow you to detail up a process so that it can be illustrated as a single object in the main P&ID.
Lesson 6: Symbols
A new symbol will be created and added to the library. The reference points and connections points will be added. Text will be added to annotate the part. Symbol variants will be created to reflect the choices available for standard parts. The properties of the parts will be added. The properties of multiple parts can be reviewed and will be amended. Finally we will add our symbol to the pick menu for fast selection.
Lesson 7: Lists
Three types of list are available in the P&ID. A table of contents will be generated. The other two types of list are for parts lists and component lists. The parts list is the bill of materials and the component list is an index of components with their locations in the document. Both list types will be generated with options for line breaks and page breaks explored. Finally a parts list will be exported to Microsoft Excel.
Lesson 8: Object Lister
The object lister allows users to manage and control data from across the entire project. Date from the project will be displayed and sorted and information will be outputted to a text or Excel file.
Lesson 9: Tools
Looking at how symbols can be documented in the project. A drawings will be created showing all the symbols in the project along with a selection of meta data that relate to them. DWG and DXF files can also be imported into P&ID and the process for this will be demonstrated. New symbols can then be created from that imported data.
Lesson 10: Export PDF files
Learn how to export the project to a PDF file. This is an enhanced PDF where page links will work. The components list will link to the drawing page and parts on the P&ID can show additional data.
