Course Overview
This course, focused entirely on the 2D drawings aspect of the package, goes in depth into setting up drawing sheets, creating drawing views, applying dimension schemes and generating bills of materials.
For CAD managers we work through an example of creating, customising and reusing drawing border information to enable your drawing sheets to contain dynamic place holders to model information. Also learn how to reuse drawing data, manage references correctly and check your work against a baseline standard.
NOTE: This course is available as part of the Silver, Gold & Platinum Training Passports.
What You'll Learn
Course Agenda
Lesson 1: Review of the Basics
The first lesson of this course focuses on recapping the basic drawing functions introduced in the SOLIDWORKS Essentials course. The user is shown how to create views, add dimensions and insert tables.
Lesson 2: Understanding Drawing Templates
In this lesson, the customer will breakdown the structure of a drawing file, and then learn the steps of creating drawing templates and sheet formats. They will also learn how to correctly setup SOLIDWORKS to use our own templates for new drawings.
Lesson 3: Customizing the Sheet Format
In Lesson 3 of this course, the user will become familiar with customising SOLIDWORKS drawing sheet formats, covering title blocks, automatic border tools & table anchors. Leaving the customer with the knowledge to create a custom drawing template to display the required company specific document information.
Lesson 4: Saving and Testing the Sheet Format File
This lesson builds on the previous lessons knowledge, ensuring that the customer can use and reuse sheet formats. Understanding the behaviour of sheet formats in SOLIDWORKS and how they can ensure their sheet formats are working correctly and can be easily reused.
Lesson 5: Creating Additional Sheet Formats and Templates
Lesson 5 teaches the user how to use existing sheet format files to make new sheet sizes. In this lesson, the customer will also look at the Property Tab builder and how it can be used to generate custom properties.
Lesson 6: Advanced Options for Drawing Views
This lesson brings the focus back to drawing views, looking at the advanced options available inside SOLIDWORKS. Working on example parts & assemblies to create advanced views such as Auxiliary views, Crop views and Alternate position views. Following on from this, users will learn how to edit the views using SOLIDWORKS Selection Scope and View Focus.
Lesson 7: Understanding Annotation Views
Lesson 7 discusses how to display annotation views in drawings, with the aim of understanding how convenient and useful this feature is. The user will also learn how to create new and edit existing annotation views.
Lesson 8: Advanced Detailing Tools
This lesson will cover the various different detailing and dimensioning tools that can be used to communicate more information about a model view.
Lesson 9: Using Layers, Styles and Design Library
In Lesson 9 the user will learn how to apply different line fonts and colours to different drawing elements. Cover how to create and save custom dimensioning styles, whilst also learning how to build up a library of annotations within the Design Library to improve detailing efficiency.
Lesson 10: Advanced Option for BOM Tables
In lesson 10, the users will learn to customise BOMs to display company specific information. Learning how to add and define columns in a BOM and save these as a template.
Lesson 11: Additional SOLIDWORKS Tables
In this lesson, the users will learn about SOLIDWORKS Revisions tables, Hole tables and Design tables. The users will also learn about how they can modify the table’s settings.
Lesson 12: Additional Drawing Tools
In Lesson 12, the user will learn to manage the references associated to drawing files. The users will become familiar with the DrawCompare tool, Design Checker and Task Scheduler. All very useful tools designed to improve productivity and reduced mistakes.
Lesson 13: Managing Performance
In the Final lesson, the user will investigate the SOLIDWORKS performance evaluation tools, to understand how they can improve the performance of their own drawing files.
