Course Overview

The routing aspect of SOLIDWORKS is available as a Premium add-in. Pipe routing covers the ability to create flexible and orthogonal links within your SOLIDWORKS Assemblies. Learn how to generate rapid connections between key components and output as cut lists and assembly layout drawings.

Discover the libraries available in SOLIDWORKS and also how to create your own standard route parts.

NOTE: This course is available as part of the Silver, Gold & Platinum Training Passports.

What You'll Learn

Course Agenda

Lesson 1: Fundamentals of Routing

The first lesson of this course introduces the user to the basics of SOLIDWORKS routing, covering the different types of routes and the roles of routing components. The user will learn how to set SOLIDWORKS routing file locations and settings.

Lesson 2: Piping Routes

In lesson 2 the user will learn the differences between components and route parts. They will be taught how to create a custom routing assembly template and create a route using the auto routing tool.

Lesson 3: Advanced Piping Routes

In lesson 3 the user will create a route using a 3D sketch and add new route specification templates. In addition to this the user will learn how to use an alternate elbow in a piping route and finally how to add a route along a relation to the route line.

Lesson 4: Piping Fittings

Lesson 4 teaches the user how to edit a piping route and add/replace fittings to a route. The user will also learn how to add custom fittings to a route and how to use an alternate elbow in a piping route.

Lesson 5: Tubing Routes

Lesson 5 introduces the user to the basics of a tubing route, they will route using flexible and orthogonal methods and learn how to repair bend errors, export tube data to external files and finally create a drawing of a tubing route.

Lesson 6: Piping and Tubing Changes

In lesson 6 the user will learn: how to edit and copy routes, how to add a pipe penetration to a route, how to define piping spools and how to copy pipe routes. Following this the user will create flange to flange connections, be introduced to the threaded piping library and learn how to edit and modify the route sketch. Finally the user will learn how to use the triad to rotate and move a fitting as well as how to generate a pipe drawing.

Lesson 7: Creating Routing Components

Upon completion of lesson 7 the user will be able to create coupling and elbow parts, understand the function of routing points in design library parts, and understand the configuration specific properties required for routing components. The user will also learn how to generate libraries of piping and tubing parts, including elbows and routing component assemblies, such as valves.

Lesson 8: Electrical Ducting, Cable Tray, and HVAC Routes

In lesson 8 the user will learn how to create an electrical ducting route, a cable tray route and an HVAC route.

Lesson 9: Using SOLIDWORKS Content

Lesson 9 teaches the user about adding SOLIDWORKS content and creating virtual clips.
