Course Overview
Motion Simulation is a SOLIDWORKS Premium add-in and allows you to calculate and test mechanisms built into your parts and assemblies.
Using the animation interface of SOLIDWORKS, Motion Simulation can accurately simulate motors and inter-part relationships with graphical outputs such as power usage and cam trace paths, will full kinematic simulation. If you are only interested in Animations and not ‘Physics Results’ check out our Animations Course.
NOTE: This course is available as part of the Silver, Gold & Platinum Training Passports.
What You'll Learn
Course Agenda
Lesson 1: Introduction to Motion Simulation and Forces
In the first lesson of this course, the user will animate the motion of a car jack assembly, simulating the physical conditions to determine the torque required to lift a vehicle.
Lesson 2: Building a Motion Model and Post-Processing
In Lesson 2, the user will build a motion model for kinematic simulation, creating local mates and modifying plots for post-processing.
Lesson 3: Introduction to Contacts, springs and Dampers
Lesson 3 teaches the user how to check for interference and apply contacts between components. They will learn how to define solid bodies contact friction and how to add a spring with damper system to their assembly.
Lesson 4: Advanced Contact
Upon completion of Lesson 4, the user will understand the definition and description of contacts as well as learn how to use expressions to prescribe the magnitude of forces and motors. The user will be taught how to analyse the causes of an incorrect solution or a contact solution failure and how to use alternative numerical integrators.
Lesson 5: Curve to Curve Contact
Lesson 5 adds to what is learnt in Lesson 4, while introducing curve to curve contacts.
Lesson 6: CAM Synthesis
Lesson 6 introduces the user to creating spline curves to control motors. The user will create a trace path of a point to get a cam profile and then create a SOLIDWORKS part using this profile.
Lesson 7: Motion Optimisation
In Lesson 7, the user will learn how to define sensors to monitor results and parameters to be used in a design study. They will be taught how to define a design study to optimise the features of a motion study.
Lesson 8: Flexible Joints
Lesson 8 teaches the user about flexible connector and how to create advanced plots.
Lesson 9: Redundancies
Upon completion of Lesson 9, the user will understand redundancies and how they affect the simulation and also understand how to build assemblies without redundancies. The user will use flexible mates to automatically remove redundancies in a mechanism and learn how to assign the stiffness to each mate individually.
Lesson 10: Export to FEA
In Lesson 10, the user will learn how to create an action only moment as well as how to export loads from SOLIDWORKS Motion to FEA Simulation. Finally, the user will run a structural analysis in SOLIDWORKS Simulation.
Lesson 11: Event Based Simulation
In Lesson 11, the user is taught how to run an event based simulation, apply servo motors and create events with specific timing and logic. This functionality is only available with a SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional licence.
Lesson 12: Design Project
The final lesson of this course teaches the user how to create function based forces, export loads to SOLIDWORKS Simulation and complete an analysis project from SOLIDWORKS Motion to FEA.
