      Do you use DesignSpark Electrical?

If so, you will want to know the DesignSpark Electrical version 2.0 (which is the latest version of the software) is now limited to three schematic sheets, which means it can be very restrictive for design work. Users of the software now have the option to continue with DesignSpark and accept this limitation, or to upgrade to the more capable SOLIDWORKS Electrical Standard and Professional software. The SOLIDWORKS Electrical Standard licence is about 50% more functional than DesignSpark Electrical.

      What is DesignSpark Electrical?

DesignSpark Electrical is a free database-driven, schematic design package with a built-in link to RS Components Catalogues and has the facility to produce schematics and standard reports. There are approximately 1,500 downloads per month of the software so, it’s been a popular choice for individual users who are creating small projects.

What are the differences between SOLIDWORKS Electrical products and DesignSpark Electrical?

The key difference with SOLIDWORKS Electrical and DesignSpark Electrical is that you can use unlimited sheets, these can also be of any type. SOLIDWORKS Electrical also offers over a dozen standard reports, automated terminal strip drawings and cabinet drawing automation and has the option of a smart PDF output, complete with hyperlinks. With SOLIDWORKS Electrical you have access to the content portal where download symbols, as well as, manufacturing data are available to use for a wide range of products. These are not limited to RS Components either, giving you more choice and ability when customising the software to suit your needs.

      SOLIDWORKS Electrical Capabilities:

      • Multi-user collaboration
      • Virtual testing
      • 3D Electrical Cabinet Design
      • Auto-Routing
      • Microsoft Excel automation
      • Automated PLC and Connector workflows
      • Options to link to ERP integration tools
      • Enhanced links to PDM Professional and PCB integration
      • And much more…

      Will I need additional training?

The SOLIDWORKS Electrical software looks quite similar to DesignSpark Electrical, therefore training is not mandatory. We would, however, recommend a 3-day training course so users get the most from the SOLIDWORKS Electrical software and are aware of the new features and capabilities within the software.
