Course Overview
Plastics Professional immediately gives plastic part designers or manufactures the ability to simulate more of the injection moulding process from the initial fill up to the part being ejected. A significant amount of additional set up functions are included with this level of the software, and they are all detailed in the training content.
Plastics Premium gives users the full picture and introduces simulation of cooling channels and their performance within the tool, as well as predicting part deformation and warpage. These two new analysis capabilities are fully detailed in the lessons of this training course.
NOTE: This course is available as part of the Gold & Platinum Training Passports.
What You'll Learn
Course Agenda
Introduction:
Content in this course continues from the 7 lessons presented in Plastics Standard. Plastics Standard is a prerequisite for Plastics Professional/Premium and will typically be scheduled on the day before this event.
Lesson 8: Gate Blush
This lesson introduces users to the packing phase and how it is analysed within the software. Particular attention is paid to the results in the gate location in an attempt to predict and under packed part and/or the presence of Gate Blush.
Lesson 9: Packing & Cooling Times
Lesson 9 teaches the user how to transition from the fill stage through to ejection, further explaining the pack stage. The user will also understand how to predict estimated packing and cooling times.
Lesson 10: Multiple Cavity Moulds
In this lesson, the user will learn how to manage multiple cavity moulds within the software. We will also train you in the runner balancing functionality (used to ensure both cavities fill at the same time) and show you the sketched based runner tools.
Lesson 11: Symmetry Analysis
In lesson 11 the user is introduced to using symmetry analysis to save computational time for a part with multiple cavities. The user will create solid mesh runners using Channel Design, and learn how to create local mesh refinement automatically.
Lesson 12: Valve Gates & Hot Runners
Valve gates and hot runner systems are commonly used to improve the quality of the manufactured part or to improve the manufacturing process itself. They are especially relevant for parts that are very long. This lesson shows users how to replicate these set up features within the Plastics software.
Lesson 13: Reaction Injection Moulding
Thermoset plastics are manufactured with a totally different process to thermoplastics. SOLIDWORKS Plastics supports analysis for both types of material and this lesson shows you what is different when setting up your study for a thermoset.
Lesson 14: Using Inserts
Lesson 14 teaches the user how to simulate over-moulding of plastic or metal inserts. They will learn how to define cavities and inserts, assign materials to inserts and hide/show inserts.
Lesson 15: Multi Material Over Moulding
Often plastic parts are created by multiple filling operations where the part is switched in to a different cavity between these operations. The set-up conditions required to show this are detailed in this lesson.
Lesson 16: Co-Injection Moulding
Lesson 16 introduces the user to Co-Injection moulding, a process used to reduce the cost of thick parts by filling the cavity with two materials. Co-Injection, Gas assisted injection, and water assisted injection process are covered and the user will learn how to set these up.
Lesson 17: Bi-Injection Moulding
This injection moulding process allows the user to inject two materials into a single mould at two different locations.
Lesson 18: Cooling Analysis
The penultimate lesson of this course allows the user to understand the cooling process in the injection moulding cycle. The user learns how to run a cooling analysis and interpret the results.
Lesson 19: Warpage Analysis
In this, the final lesson of the course, the user will learn how to run a warpage analysis and how to interpret the results. Upon completion of the lesson the user will understand how to analyse the shrinkage and warpage of an injection moulded plastic part and identify the driving variable for the deformation observed.
