Course Overview

Simulation Professional, an additional bolt-on to SOLIDWORKS, covers a range of additional tools for structural analysis. Investigate slender parts’ resistance to buckling, predict the fatigue life of your designs.

Optimise your models to save money in your designs, investigate vibration in your components and understand how your parts react if dropped. It also includes the thermal simulation for effective simulation of conductivity and radiation.

NOTE: This course is available as part of the Gold & Platinum Training Passports.

What You'll Learn

Course Agenda

Lesson 1: Frequency Analysis of Parts

In the first lesson of this course, the user will learn how to perform a frequency analysis with and without supports and understand the role of the supports. The user will also be taught how to perform a frequency analysis with a prestress condition and how to investigate rigid body modes. Finally, the user will learn how to use design scenarios to conduct design sensitivity studies.

Lesson 2: Frequency Analysis of Assemblies

Upon completion of Lesson 2, the user will understand the concepts of natural frequencies in assemblies, and be able to approximate real contacts and connectors with appropriate interaction conditions.

Lesson 3: Buckling Analysis

In Lesson 3, the user will perform a buckling analysis and will be taught about buckling factor of safety, deciding whether the product fails in strength or stability.

Lesson 4: Load Cases

Lesson 4 helps the user to understand and use the load case manager feature to analyse multiple load combinations.

Lesson 5: Submodeling

Upon completion of Lesson 5, the user will be able to understand and use the Submodeling feature to analyse structural details. The user will also learn how to post-process results on a submodel.

Lesson 6: Topology Analysis

In Lesson 6, the user will learn how to perform a topology optimisation using a given set of boundary conditions, manufacturing constraints and optimisation goals.

Lesson 7: Thermal Analysis

In Lesson 7, the user will learn how to perform various thermal analyses, they will use thermal symmetry boundary conditions and create section views in results plots.

Lesson 8: Thermal Analysis with Radiation

Lesson 8 teaches the user how to perform a steady state heat transfer analysis with radiation, as well as properly post-process radiation analysis.

Lesson 9: Advanced Thermal Stress 2D Simplification

Upon completion of Lesson 9, the user will understand how to perform thermal stress analysis of assemblies, and learn how to utilise 2D simplification to reduce the problem size.

Lesson 10: Fatigue Analysis

In Lesson 10, the user will be introduced to the basic concepts in fatigue failure and the required information to proceed with a fatigue analysis. The user will learn about S-N curves as well as how to set up a fatigue analysis with multiple constant amplitude events and evaluate the results.

Lesson 11: Variable Amplitude Fatigue

Lesson 11 teaches the user about variable amplitude loading history and its setup in the fatigue study. The user will learn how to post-process results and analyse the composition of the variable amplitude loading.

Lesson 12: Drop Test Analysis

Upon completion of Lesson 12, the user will be able to perform a drop test analysis, use an elasto-plastic material model and analyse the results of a dynamic study.

Lesson 13: Optimisation Analysis

In Lesson 13, the user will learn how to perform an optimisation analysis based on static and frequency analyses. They will also be taught how to properly post-process optimisation results.

Lesson 14: Pressure Vessel Analysis

In the final lesson, the user will apply SOLIDWORKS Simulation Pressure Vessel Design module to the design of the pressure vessels. They will create linear and SRSS combinations of the load cases and evaluate stress results.
